The WIAA High School Football Playoffs are here! Teams from all over Wisconsin will compete for the right to be crowned state champs. Here in the area, there are several high schools that have qualified for the tournament. Take a look at just a few of the local teams in our communities looking to make some noise this postseason.
Bay Port heads into the playoffs coming out of an extremely dominant regular season. Over the course of the season, the Pirates have scored over 400 total points. They have surrendered less than 40. Translation? Blowouts. Look for the Pirates, who have gone undefeated in conference play the last 4 years, to be heavy favorites all post-season.
This potent offensive attack is one of the many reasons that Bay Port has earned a #1 seed in the Division 1 WIAA playoffs. They will face the #8 seed Milwaukee Bradley Technical/Milw Arts this Friday at home.
Green Bay Preble is also in the Division 1 playoff picture, having secured a spot with their victory in the regular season finale. Preble has been slotted as a 5 seed, and something to keep an eye on is their potential second round match-up with Bay Port.
However, before they can even think about that game, the Hornets must win their first round game on the road against Milwaukee Riverside/Golda Meir.
The Ashwaubenon Jaguars are coming off of a very successful regular season campaign. They ended their season touting an 8-2 record and finishing 3rd in their conference. Having put up the 2nd-most points in their conference this season, behind Bay Port, this offense is no stranger to putting points on the board.
As a #4 seed in the Division 3 tournament, they will play host to #5 seed Grafton this Friday.
Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Kimberly High School is good at football. In fact, in the past decade, Kimberly has made it to the Division 1 State Final game SEVEN times. They have won FIVE titles. There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and Kimberly high school football making the playoffs.
Featuring an offense that averages over 40 points a game, this team can put points on the board in a hurry. Get ready for the fireworks!
The Papermakers are another #1 seed in the Division 1 bracket, and begin their quest for another state title this Friday at home against Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. Kimberly’s bracket region also features many potential familiar foes, such as Appleton North, Appleton East, and Neenah high schools.
Little Chute qualifies for yet another postseason, despite being in the middle of a North Eastern conference that features five total playoff qualifying teams. The conference itself has 9 teams, and over half of it’s teams made the postseason. This shows how balanced, yet top heavy these teams are.
These Mustangs have qualified for the playoffs in 8 straight seasons, including their 2014 run that ended in the Division 4 state title game. Little Chute will look to repeat last year’s postseason success, when they advanced to level 4 of the playoffs. The first step to achieving that goal will be winning their match-up against Wrightstown on Friday.
Enjoy the Friday night lights and cheer on your team! Which of these teams do you think will go all the way in the WIAA High School Football Playoffs to claim the gold ball?
